February is a special month with significance touching the earthly, romantic, and spiritual realms. It is the shortest month of the year and known familiarly as the month of love and kindness. Also, Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th of this month. Everywhere we see hearts, on boxes of candies and greeting cards, in store windows and in TV commercials, reminder to show our love and kindness to others.
It is good to highlight these virtues during the month of February, yet we are called to express these virtues day in and day out; not just during one week in February.
Some questions you could ask yourself to help you flow with love and kindness.
Did I tell my significant other “I love you” today?
Have I done a random act of kindness? (Something as simple as holding the door open or saying, “Thank You”.)
Have I helped someone in need? (A small donation or helping a coworker in need may seem insignificant but goes a long way.)
Do I try to make life easier for others?
If you can answer yes to all the questions above, then love and kindness is flowing through you, day-in and day out. If on the other hand, you answered no to any of the questions above, well then, you know what you need to do!
Being kind not only makes the world a better place but offers significant psychological benefits. Performing kind acts for others can reverse feelings of depression and isolation. Showing kindness can enhance feelings of joyfulness and vigor. Every single act of kindness counts!
